Harry Potter Moment of the Week #26

HPMOTW (2)

This is a meme started by Uncorked Thoughts which aims to share with fellow bloggers a weekly slice of HP awesomeness. It is an awesomeness that only increases with time and number of reads. Once a week we will share a character, spell, chapter, object, quote etc. from the books/films/J. K. Rowling (or anything Potter related)! Each topic will be posted on Uncorked Thoughts HERE. There will also be  free weeks where everyone can share whatever topic they want! Be sure to share your link on the main site for all other HP MOTW fans to enjoy!

This Week’s Theme: Favourite Trelawney prophecy?

There are so many delightful moments with Trelawney, and as much as her real prophecies are life-changing, I much prefer the… shall we say less accurate predictions. My two favorites:

trelawney grim

So the first prediction is one of the first that Trelawney ever makes in the books, and comes in Prisoner of Azkaban. I love when she makes this prediction for one very simple reason. It drives Harry and Ron nuts over the course of the year, making them think bad things are going to happen. It’s so wonderfully silly.

The second moment was not in the movies, but the books…

“…and Professor Trelawney broke into hysterical sobs during Divination and announced to the startled class, and a very disapproving Umbridge, that Harry was not going to suffer an early death after all, but would live to a ripe old age, become Minister of Magic, and have twelve children.”  — (pages 582-583)

This one just makes me giggle because everyone obviously knows it’s not a real prediction, Trelawney is just trying to do her part to stick it to Umbridge after reading about Harry’s encounter with Voldemort in the Quibbler (which I wholly support). But it was a small moment, quickly passed by, that I always thought was kind of awesome. She’s a nut, but she’s a nut that is all about Hogwarts and she does what she can. Though I kind of agree with Hermione that she’s not the best teacher, I have to give her props for her solidarity.

Well, that’s really all I’ve got for ya! Just a small moment of sweet HP goodness! I hope you enjoyed it, and please, feel free to share your own thoughts on what you think the best Trelawney prediction or prophesy was in the comments below!

  1. Oh I love that one too! It was so great after telling him death was coming for him from the Grim so many times. Also when she tries to pull one out for Umbridge when she is so disbelieving of her gift and Trelawney says ”Danger, I see danger in your future” that seems so ridiculous at the time. Then later she is hauled off by the centaurs. Trelawney is fantastic 😀
