Bay of Sighs (The Guardians Trilogy, #2) by Nora Roberts

To celebrate the rise of their new queen, three goddesses of the moon created three stars, one of fire, one of ice, one of water. But then they fell from the sky, putting the fate of all worlds in danger. And now three women and three men join forces to pick up the pieces…

Mermaid Annika is from the sea, and it is there she must return after her quest to find the stars. New to this world, her purity and beauty are nothing less than breathtaking, along with her graceful athleticism, as her five new friends discovered when they retrieved the fire star.

Now, through space and time, traveler Sawyer King has brought the guardians to the island of Capri, where the water star is hidden. And as he watches Annika in her element, he finds himself drawn to her joyful spirit. But Sawyer knows that if he allows her into his heart, no compass could ever guide him back to solid ground…

And in the darkness, their enemy broods. She lost one star to the guardians, but there is still time for blood to be spilled—the mermaid’s in the water and the traveler’s on the land. For she has forged a dangerous new weapon. Something deadly and unpredictable. Something human.

I love me some Nora Roberts. Especially when she does trilogies and series with a bit of magic in them. With this new trilogy, I really enjoyed the mythology she’s cooked up to get all these lovers together. And while some people probably find her stories too formulaic, that’s one of the qualities I like about her work. I know I’m going to get something that feels both familiar and new all at the same time. I’m really curious about this second book because the focus is on two characters with peculiar and mysterious backgrounds and I’m excited to explore them. This is a perfect beach read, just in time for summer!

PS. Happy Birthday to my baby sister today!!!

“Waiting On” Wednesdays: Allegiance of Honor

Allegiance of Honor (Psy-Changeling, #15) by Nalini Singh

The “unparalleled romantic adventure”* of Nalini Singh’s New York Times bestselling series continues as a new dawn begins for the Psy-Changeling world…

The Psy-Changeling world has undergone a staggering transformation and now stands at a crossroads. The Trinity Accord promises a new era of cooperation between disparate races and groups. It is a beacon of hope held together by many hands: Old enemies. New allies. Wary loners.

But a century of distrust and suspicion can’t be so easily forgotten and threatens to shatter Trinity from within at any moment. As rival members vie for dominance, chaos and evil gather in the shadows and a kidnapped woman’s cry for help washes up in San Francisco, while the Consortium turns its murderous gaze toward a child who is the embodiment of change, of love, of piercing hope: A child who is both Psy…and changeling.

To find the lost, protect the vulnerable—and save Trinity—no one can stand alone. This is a time of loyalty across divisions, of bonds woven into the heart and the soul, of heroes known and unknown standing back to back and holding the line. But is an allegiance of honor even possible with traitors lurking in their midst?

This is an extensive paranormal romance series and I’ve only recently caught up with it. I love Singh’s abilities to fully-realized fantasy backdrops for her characters to interact in. The history between the varied races in this world is so detailed and complex and plays beautifully into the story-arch that continues throughout the whole series. I’m really excited to see where the series goes next!!

The riveting new novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Liar.

Naomi Bowes lost her innocence the night she followed her father into the woods. In freeing the girl trapped in the root cellar, Naomi revealed the horrible extent of her father’s crimes and made him infamous.

Now a successful photographer living under the name Naomi Carson, she has found a place that calls to her, thousands of miles away from everything she’s ever known. Naomi wants to embrace the solitude, but the residents of Sunrise Cove keep forcing her to open up—especially the determined Xander Keaton.

Naomi can feel her defenses failing, and knows that the connection her new life offers is something she’s always secretly craved. But as she’s learned time and again, her past is never more than a nightmare away.

Happy dance for a new Nora Roberts romantic suspense story!! In general I usually like her series books better, but recently I’ve been feeling ready for a bit of a thriller vibe. But I’m also a scaredy cat so this will be good enough for me. LOL It’s like thriller-light. I really like the description of this story too. I’m really curious as to what these crimes are and what this little town is all about. Nora Roberts always writes the best small towns and makes me want to live in these places she creates. Can’t wait to get started on it!

“Waiting On” Wednesdays: Walk the Edge

One moment of recklessness will change their worlds.

Smart. Responsible. That’s seventeen-year-old Breanna’s role in her large family, and heaven forbid she put a toe out of line. Until one night of shockingly un-Breanna-like behavior puts her into a vicious cyber-bully’s line of fire—and brings fellow senior Thomas “Razor” Turner into her life.

Razor lives for the Reign of Terror motorcycle club, and good girls like Breanna just don’t belong. But when he learns she’s being blackmailed over a compromising picture of the two of them—a picture that turns one unexpected and beautiful moment into ugliness—he knows it’s time to step outside the rules.

And so they make a pact: he’ll help her track down her blackmailer, and in return she’ll help him seek answers to the mystery that’s haunted him—one that not even his club brothers have been willing to discuss. But the more time they spend together, the more their feelings grow. And suddenly they’re both walking the edge of discovering who they really are, what they want, and where they’re going from here.

I’m such a big fan of Katie McGarry! Her stories, are always full of drama and tension, but still feel like the characters could step off the page and into this world with no problems! They are that real. The situations and problems they face are true to life and I feel like if I went down to Kentucky I would find these people walking around. With her new Thunder Road series, I liked the first book but wasn’t as into it as her previous series. But now with book 2, I find I’m really excited to read about Razor! We don’t really know too much about him from the first book so I’m kinda glad he’s the focus of this story.

“You will cheer for Amani the whole way as she escapes the bonds of oppression and finds her own power, and you will mark your calendar for the sequel.”—Rae Carson, bestselling author of the Fire & Thorns trilogy

Mortals rule the desert nation of Miraji, but mythical beasts still roam the wild and remote areas, and rumor has it that somewhere, djinn still perform their magic.  For humans, it’s an unforgiving place, especially if you’re poor, orphaned, or female.

Amani Al’Hiza is all three.  She’s a gifted gunslinger with perfect aim, but she can’t shoot her way out of Dustwalk, the back-country town where she’s destined to wind up wed or dead.

Then she meets Jin, a rakish foreigner, in a shooting contest, and sees him as the perfect escape route. But though she’s spent years dreaming of leaving Dustwalk, she never imagined she’d gallop away on mythical horse—or that it would take a foreign fugitive to show her the heart of the desert she thought she knew.

Rebel of the Sands reveals what happens when a dream deferred explodes—in the fires of rebellion, of romantic passion, and the all-consuming inferno of a girl finally, at long last, embracing her power.

Mythical beasts, djinn, gunslingers, and a rebellion? Sign me up please! I’m really excited to find out more about the heroine, Amani. A girl embracing her power… and the setting sounds fantastic. I’m such a sucker for great world-building and I really hope this story can deliver the way it sounds.

And now, since there are so many wonderful books out there, here’s a second book I’m waiting for…

The Great HuntThe Great Hunt by Wendy Higgins

Hardcover, 416 pages
Publication Date: Mar. 8th, 2016
Publisher: HarperTeen
ISBN: 9780062381330
Add it: To your TBR Pile or your “Want to Read” list on Goodreads.

Kill the beast. Win the girl.

A strange beast stirs fear in the kingdom of Lochlanach, terrorizing towns with its brutality and hunger. In an act of desperation, a proclamation is sent to all of Eurona—kill the creature and win the ultimate prize: the daughter of King Lochson’s hand in marriage.

Princess Aerity understands her duty to the kingdom though it pains her to imagine marrying a stranger. It would be foolish to set her sights on any particular man in the great hunt, but when a brooding local hunter, Paxton Seabolt, catches her attention, there’s no denying the unspoken lure between them…or his mysterious resentment.

Paxton is not keen on marriage. Nor does he care much for spoiled royals and their arcane laws. He’s determined to keep his focus on the task at hand—ridding the kingdom of the beast and protecting his family—yet Princess Aerity continues to challenge his notions with her unpredictability and charm. But as past secrets collide with present desires, dire choices threaten everything Paxton holds dear.

Inspired by the Grimm Brothers’ tale, “The Singing Bone,” New York Times bestselling author Wendy Higgins delivers a dark fantasy filled with rugged hunters, romantic tension, outlawed magic, and a princess willing to risk all to save her people.

I’m deeply interested in this story, especially the fact that it’s inspired by a fairy tale (my favorite!) And I like the fact that this seems to be a lesser-known one, instead of one of the biggies. It sounds so dramatic and full of magic and I’m already a fan.

“I teach a lot of little cats,” she reminded him in a prim, schoolteacher voice. “I might not be an expert on changeling behavior, but I’ve picked up enough to know that when in animal form, you behave according to the needs of the animal.”

He couldn’t help himself. He turned and snapped his teeth at her, making her jump. When he began to chuckle, her eyes narrowed. “You’re as bad as Bryan. He does that to Katie all the time.”

“Odds on, he has a crush on her.”

Her lips twitched. “That’s what I think, too.”

BOOK ONE OF THE GUARDIANS TRILOGY

To celebrate the rise of their new queen, three goddesses of the moon created three stars, one of fire, one of ice, one of water. But then they fell from the sky, putting the fate of all worlds in danger. And now three women and three men join forces to pick up the pieces…

Sasha Riggs is a reclusive artist, haunted by dreams and nightmares that she turns into extraordinary paintings. Her visions lead her to the Greek island of Corfu, where five others have been lured to seek the fire star. Sasha recognizes them, because she has drawn them: a magician, an archaeologist, a wanderer, a fighter, a loner. All on a quest. All with secrets.

Sasha is the one who holds them together—the seer. And in the magician, Bran Killian, she sees a man of immense power and compassion. As Sasha struggles with her rare ability, Bran is there to support her, challenge her, and believe in her.

But Sasha and Bran are just two of the six. And they all must all work together as a team to find the fire star in a cradle of land beneath the sea. Over their every attempt at trust, unity, and love, a dark threat looms. And it seeks to corrupt everything that stands in its way of possessing the stars…

New Nora Roberts trilogy… YAY!! More love and magic mixed together. I love the sound of these people, and that there are goddesses, and I’m really hoping that my Queen of Romance is delving into the realm of Greek mythology with this new series of hers. I cannot wait to get my hands on this new book. Nobody melds magic, romance, and danger like Nora Roberts. Bring it on! P.S. that cover is so pretty!!!

The author of A Little Something Different brings you the most adorkable romance ever.

Jane, a superstitious fangirl, takes an anonymous babysitting job to avoid an unpaid internship with her college-obsessed mom. The only problem? She’s babysitting the siblings of her childhood friend and new crush, Teo.

Teo doesn’t dislike Jane, but his best friend Ravi hates her, and is determined to keep them apart. So Teo’s pretty sure his plans for a peaceful summer are shot. His only hope is that his intermittent search for his birth father will finally pan out and he’ll find a new, less awkward home. Meanwhile, at Jane’s house, her sister Margo wants to come out as bisexual, but she’s terrified of how her parents will react.

In a summer filled with secrets and questions, even Jane’s Magic 8 ball can’t give them clear answers, but Signs Point to Yes.

With the plethora of fantasy stories that are filling my too read list, I like how simple and lovely this story sounds. Sandy Hall’s A Little Something Different was beautiful, poignant, and unique. I think this has the potential to be just as delightful. Hall weaves her characters’ stories so well, and I’m very intrigued by the relationships in this blurb.

Glancing back at Camille and receiving a nod, he placed a shoulder against the rattling planks to brace against the wind and lifted the clattering latch and eased the door on its leather-strap hinges open a crack, putting his eye to the narrow space as a snow-bearing sheet of wind swirled in. “Ai!” he wailed and slammed the door to and crashed the bar down into its brackets.

“What is it Papa?” cried the children at the fire as they leapt to their feet and clustered, all clutching one another for support, the mother standing and shrinking back against the trembling knot of girls.
