This Week’s Theme: Best Dumbledore Moment

Yeeeeeeesssssssss!! This is a theme I can thoroughly get behind! There are so many amazing Dumbledore moments throughout the series, but the one I love — that immediately jumped into my mind — is this one:

Dumbledore's got style

This scene, both in the books and in the film, was just AWESOME! I mean, Shacklebolt sums it up exactly. Dumbledore protects Harry, basically thumbs his nose at the Ministry of Magic, and escapes from custody via a phoenix, thus proving himself a badass. With style.

“A streak of silver light flashed around the room. There was a bang like a gunshot, and the floor trembled.  A hand grabbed the scruff of Harry’s neck and forced him down to the floor as a second silver flash went off — several of the portraits yelled, Fawkes screeched, and a cloud of dust filled the air. Coughing in the dust, Harry saw a dark figure fall to the ground with a crash in front of him. There was a shriek and a thud and somebody cried, ‘No!’ Then the sound of breaking glass, frantically scuffling footsteps, a groan — and silence.” (pg 621)

“She said nothing, but marched Harry and Marietta to the door. As it swung closed behind them, Harry heard Phineas Nigellus’s voice.

‘You know, Minister, I disagree with Dumbledore on many counts…but you cannot deny he’s got style…'” (pg 623)

I remember reading this moment in Order of the Phoenix for the first time and just crowing with excitement and triumph when Dumbledore gets one over on the Ministry. It was so cool, and so well-done. From the moment Harry walks into his office, to the moment he walks out again. All the stuff with Dumbledore’s Army was so incredible, and then this moment pushing everything to a head. It was so much fun to read. It is by far my favorite of all the scenes with Dumbledore!

Well, that’s really all I’ve got for ya! Just a small moment of sweet HP goodness! I hope you enjoyed it, and please, feel free to share your own favorite Dumbledore moments in the comments below!

  1. I LOVE this scene. It’s so iconic, isn’t it? It’s the first that lept to my mind but I figured that it would be a favourite pick with many so I chose another favourite of mine.

  2. YES! This is one of my favorite Dumbledore moments too, although Dumbledore doesn’t have any ‘bad’ moments in my book ♥ I loved how he supported Harry here, showed off his mad skills AND basically said: SUCK IT to the Ministry 😀 I like this moment even more in the books because Dumbledore speaks to Harry before really leaving and it hints at what’s to come! Fantastic pick ^^

  3. The way it is written in the book is so great, you know something is going on that’s chaotic and important, but Harry doesn’t really understand everything that went down step by step until he works it out in his head later. I really enjoyed how they brought it to life in the movie, changing the line to Kingsley was brilliant during the scene. The only part that I do wish was in here is Hermione’s SNEAK charm. She was brilliant for managing that. Great pick 😀 It was mine also!
